Hotels near The National Gallery London

The National Gallery is located on Trafalgar Square and was founded in 1824. It houses an impressive collection of paintings (roughly 2,300 in total) dating from the 13th century to 1900.

Entry to the main exhibitions is free and the paintings belong to the public. The collection housed by the National Gallery in London is considered to be one of the finest collections of Western European paintings in the world.

At the National Gallery you can see famous works of art such as Van Gogh’s Sunflowers and Van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait. An interesting fact about this gallery is that it was set up to house 36 paintings bought by the British government from a banker named John Julius Angerstein in 1824 and not to nationalise a royal collection, as is the case with so many other important European art galleries.

If you are taking a trip to the National Gallery, why not make a full event of it and stay a night at Clayton Crown Hotel London which is located approx 30 minutes via Public Transport from the gallery.
